RY25 Open Office Hours: Updates to the DDx

New Energy Codes

In response to growing demand, we are adding the following new energy codes for this upcoming 2024 reporting year:

  • Washington Energy Code 2018 - 52% savings from baseline

Embodied carbon reporting updates

Embodied carbon data inputs continue to be optional fields for DDx project data. Further building on the alignment with the ECHO Project Schema, the AIA DDx has aligned its embodied carbon data fields to reflect certain data points from the schema. The bulk import spreadsheet has been updated to reflect these additional fields for projects with embodied carbon data. Changes include:

  • The “Embodied Carbon Only” project set-up has been discontinued and integrated directly into the “Whole Building” project set-up process. If you select “Yes” to question “Has embodied carbon been calculated for this phase?” you must enter all the fields with an *, especially the “Total Project Area in m2” this will be used to calculate the total Embodied Carbon Intensity for this section.

  • Carbon modeling tools:

    • “EPIC” and “EPIC Tool” will disappear for RY25 for new projects and become “C.Scale”

  • Stages and scopes are now integrated into a table format with data entry available for multiple different stages and scopes with subtotals for each and total at the bottom. If you do not have data for these broken out you can select to override and enter your own Embodied Carbon Intensity total, this will make the table inactive.

  • Stages include:

    • Product stage (A1-3)

    • Construction process stage A4

    • Construction process stage A5

    • Use (B1-5)

    • End of life (C1-4)

    • Module D

  • Scopes include:

    • Substructure

    • Shell Superstructure

    • Shell Exterior Enclosure

    • Interior Construction

    • Interiors Finishes

    • MEP

    • Sitework

    • Equipment

    • Furnishings

Energy Star Portfolio Manager (ESPM) integration

The post-occupancy section of project dashboards now feature an API connection to ESPM. If you have administrative access to a building’s ESPM account you can request to connect to AIA’s ESPM account and import your yearly measured performance data. For detailed instructions about how to connect a project please see the Connecting your DDx project with Energy Star Portfolio Manager help page.

COTE Top Ten Superspreadsheet inclusion

The DDx now features new buttons and a new tab for the “COTE Top Ten” award and associated data. This section of the DDx is NOT REQUIRED for reporting 2030 projects. Please use the “2030 Commitment” tab to see your firms 2030 projects only and functionality will be the same as before the COTE Top Ten inclusion.
