How to cancel an e-check that is returned for insufficient funds
Sometimes an e-check is returned due to insufficient funds. When this happens you will need to remove some information from the receipt that the check is tied to so that the transactions are backed out and the receipt can be paid again by the customer.
Step-by-step guide
Go to the Receipt that the payment was originally applied to
Select the "Create Refund" button
Select the "View Refund" button
Edit the receipt and update the following fields:
delete the reference number under the payment method
change the payment type to "Other"
edit the memo line to reflect that this payment was returned for insufficient funds
save the receipt
Select the "Process refund" button
This process is scheduled to be automated so that an NSF checkbox is updated and then these manual edits will be automated. Until that improvement is made please use the steps above.
