When bulk loading Items, you will need to bulk upload the related items that are needed to support the "Item" object. You should load those items in this order.
Step-by-step guide

Item (merchandise)
Subscription plans
Item (subscription)
Item (assign subscription plan)
Item (set subscription to active)
If you don't follow this order, you may have orphans or items that don't work quite right.
