How to create a new portal community

Sometimes we may need to create a new portal and site which requires several other creations.  This video should guide you through the process. The basic steps are outlined below, but reference the video for complete instructions

A lot of this will be replaced by a wizard process that is being built into a Fonteva base-product release for 2021.

Step-by-step guide

  1. Look at the business group and identify the busines group you will want the community associated with.
  2. Create the community by going to setup>all communities>new community.  Make sure you select the most current Fonteva community template
  3. Create the community site by going to community sites>new community.  Use the same community and the appropriate store (most likely the same store).

    1-to-1 relationship

    1. There is a 1-to-1 relationship between a community site and a community when buildng a Fonteva templated community.
  4. Go back to the community (you will need to make some minor change to the site so you can re-publish the site).
  5. Check the community has all the financial pages were automatically built.
(Specifically check for "sales order", see 0:11:35 on the video above. There is an example of how to set this up if we are missing a financial page layout).
  6. Set up your branding
  7. Clean up your menu by going to your community site record and find Community menu items on the related tab, then deactive rather than delete menu items you don't want
  8. Set your landing page–and your community is basically set up and associated to the correct store (check your payment gateways and payment types)
  9. Activate the new community by going to the community workspace and in the Administration tile you will need to make changes to the community before you activate it.
    1. Under Members, select the profiles and permission sets that will have access to the community and save the settings
    2. Under Emails, turn off the welcome email and save the settings
    3. Now, you can go back to Settings and activate the community.
  10. If this site will have a unique domain, you will need to create a new site record. Do this by going to Sites>New record.
  11. Select the site name, the community, and the default template.  Include a description of the community's use case.
  12. Associate this new Site to the correct Store (usually the same store that other sites use) and the correct Business group
  13. Update the community links to the correct SSO url's
  14. The logo is controlled on the community site record, all other branding is done on the site builder workspace for the Site
  15. If this is for Fonteva events, you will need to go to the event categories and adjust the default sites that each category assigns events to
